PRIMARY FOCUS
CITY RAILWAY SYSTEM
City Railway System is a new approach of projecting the identity of a city onto its subway map. Whereas standard subway maps are aimed at conveying information as clearly and concisely as possible, City Railway System by Zeroperzero is distinguished by grafting symbolic elements of each city onto the map while preserving clarity. ZPZ introduced the traditional heart shape from Milton Glaser’s I ♥ NY logo as the symbol for New York City. For Seoul, ZPZ chose the representation of the Han River as the curvature in the Tae-Guk mark of the national flag of Korea, and for Tokyo, the sun disc of the Japanese national flag. Targeting tourists, major landmarks are marked and attractions on the subway map, making it convenient for visitors to figure out the fastest way to get to the destination just by taking a glance. The railway map itself is also good for souvenirs.
ZERO PER ZERO has earned numerous accolades and awards and was featured at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA): destination Seoul exhibit. ZPZ has also won the Design for Asia Grand Award 2008, Designpreis Deutschland 2010, International Design Excellence Awards 2009, and the Communication Design Award 2008.
